Pentatonic Highway rescue
I have to admit that lately i seeMed to have lost my guitar mojo. Its happened before and i left it for a few years and i didnt want a repeat of that. I reviSited the pentatonic highway lesson today and i have to say that it just clicked after a few attempts. I played along to a slow backing track and it felt good. I am so glad to have this platform to keep me on track β€οΈ

I think we all feel like that now and again. I would say just keep listening to your favourite music and enjoying it, you are learning as much when you listen to music and really appreciate it. And within that I'm sure you'll come across whatever it was that made you want to pick up the guitar in the first place β€οΈπ΅

I might have missed something somewhere amongst your lessons ....
I have a question ..... can you tell me, when listening to a song, how do you workout what key the song/tune/solo is being played in ..?

Hi Sue,
Great question! theres a few ways to do it, One way is I look for the root note by trying lots of different notes on the Low E string until i find one that i think works and then play either the major scale from that note or the minor scale.
If either of those sound good against the record it will try the chords in that key by process of elimination and start transcribing.
This is something quite hard to explain in the classroom never mind in a social media post! The most success i have had with teaching this is doing it live in the room with a student. I could have a go at making a video transcribing a tune i dont know and talking through the process?

Currently doing a deep dive into another Northern Soul classic that the Soul Choir will be singing in December. This time it's one of the infamous WIgan Casino '3 before 8' songs, Jimmy Radcliffe's 'Long After Tonight Is All Over'. Andrew helped guide me with this at our last lesson and I'm current tabbing it in Guitar Pro and exploring rhythms, 60's style scratch chords and tones.

Hi James, I've gone through your "Beginner Course" and I wish that something like this existed many moons back when I first picked up the guitar.
Some observations:
"Getting Started" this is Number 3
"Melody" is number 4
"Chords" is number 5
"Putting It All Together" is also number 4.
Is there a number 1 and 2?
Upon completion of viewing all the lessons the progress bar cannot go beyond 69%
