You can try strumming only downstrokes on each beat: Down (1) - Down (2) - Down (3) - Down (4). Once you've cracked that add in a bit more like Down - Down-Up - Up - Down. The way I figure it out is to listen to the beat and add extra strums where it just sounds right. Some times a bit of fill at the end of a line sounds cool.
