Guitar or Bass

I am at a crossroads and I need to make a decision. I play guitar and bass but I have mostly concentrated on guitar for the last nearly 8 years. I find guitar extremely difficult, and I am frustrated that I can’t play how I want to play after all this time. I can’t improvise, I can’t solo well and my fingers are slow. I have also played a bit of bass and find it easy and I can play it in the pocket and enjoy it more than playing guitar.

My head says stick with guitar as I have put a lot of time into it but it frustrates me so much. When I feel like that I pick up the bass and I can play loads of songs in time and I just have a lot more fun. I am at a crossroads and want to move forward with one instrument as I don’t have time for both. Guitar sounds great but I just can’t see me improving enough to be able to play how I want too. I would love to hear others opinions on this one 👍

Hi Chris, I would say don't give up! It sounds like you have worked really hard and you may regret it later on if you give up now. I think continue to play bass for fun and keep picking up your guitar little and often. When you get frustrated, stop and do something else. I bet you have come further than you think in 8 years; we all feel like we are getting nowhere at times but I bet if you look back you have made a lot of progress. Just stick with it, one step at a time 🙂
